Quandary Peak Avy conditions

Post by brittonc »

Hi, I was thinking of doing Quandary peak next week by the East slopes route and I was wondering what you guys think the avy conditions are given all the new snow. I hear the East slopes are supposed to always be safe and I was wondering wether that statement is really true.

I would never describe any route as always safe from avalanche danger. It is a very low risk route but there are still places where it can happen, and that's assuming you are able to follow the best line. A little knowledge goes a long way in staying safe. Have you taken an avalanche course?

Was up there yesterday - reasonably avy safe if you stay on route.
Snowshoes were needed beginning just below treeline to summit. Prior to that, the trail was well packed.
Have fun! :D
