Snowpack

Post by Wish I lived in CO »

Now that the winter is about half over, was just wondering what this year's snowfall / snowpack is as compared to other years? Just bored of waiting for winter to end and was curious about any early indicators of how much snow might be left in some of the coloiurs that typically hold snow into July and August.

I don't have the link in front of me but much of the s.w. part of the state is above normal and most everywhere below normal down to 70-80% of normal in places for this time of year.

But keep in mind that while winter may be half over the snow year is just getting started in February really.

As of February 1st, SNOTEL sites across Colorado were showing the southwest above average while the northern part of the state is 20-25% below average. Here is a nice visual breakdown of the entire state.

Summit County.

Blue River Basin total (Breck): 71 percent
Hoosier Pass: 86 percent
Snake River (Keystone): 31 percent

A little dry this year.

It is hard to tell you how much snow will be in couloirs half way through the summer when we're only half way through the winter...... #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o

Just trying to make friendly conversation, thanks for the encouraging "D'oh's. The keywords here were "early indicators"

I prefer the regional/statewide snotel charts: http://www.co.nrcs.usda.gov/snow/snow/w ... _time.html

Here is the statewide situation right now:
