Igloo on Mt. Shavano

Post by arnee05 »

A couple buddies and I built an igloo on the Angel of Shavano route up Mt. Shavano around 11,500 ft. The igloo is in a clearing around 500 feet below the beginning of the angel. It sleeps 5 people and all are welcome/encouraged to use it! Trip report to be posted soon

Did you get Tab as well? Nice job on the igloo!

We spent all of our energy building the igloo and didn't get either of the summits. When we woke up yesterday morning, none of us had the motivation to climb 3000' for an icy snowboard descent, so we decided to just ride down rather than attempt either summit.

Sweet igloo man, I've always wanted to do something like that. Other than it looking icy how did the coverage look up the Angel, any pics of it?

A couple of of our buddies who didn't camp, hiked as far as the angel's armpit and they said the coverage was good but solid ice. I've attached a pic, but that's the closest we got.
