Calibron

Post by Dancesatmoonrise »

Conditions for Calibron today included impressive winds and dangerously high gusts. Three of us managed to take the ridge from Bross to Lincoln and back, over Cameron, starting and ending with the Moose Creek TH, which is plowed. The east aspects of Bross and Lincoln were fairly scrubbed off, and the snow that was there was mostly firm windcrust. We felt there was little slide danger, with the minor exception of one 25 yard section which we probably could have avoided with a little effort.

There are a few new houses on Zinc Rd. The turnout at the back was not plowed, though we were able to turn around on Zinc, off the Quartzville Road, and park along the side. The car was still there when we got back. There was no discernable snowshoe track, having to bust trail through a short section below treeline, but the rest of the climb went in boots and poles (and microspikes, in my case.)

No we didn't. There was not enough time or energy to do so. But we did see another group out doing just Democrat.

Congratulations on your successful day out. Do you have an estimate on your total car-to-car time? I'm looking at some of these for next weekend, especially when you consider what transpires tomorrow at 10:47 MST. 8)

Thanks in advance.

it was 6.5 hours. We spent around a total of 30 minutes combined on the three summits.

Awesome job! Was on Quandary yesterday, and the winds were relentless. But, at least the visibility was still great! I may have to give the Calibron a shot next weekend.

Thanks, Sen. It was a good job just to get back across the ridge safely in those afternoon winds. I was strongly considering descending off Lincoln, even though we'd ditched the snowshoes below Bross.

Anyway, here's the TR:
