Here's the link to the snotel site for Glen Cove: http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/sntl-data0000.jsp?site=1057&days=7&state=CO
It gives recent temps and snow depths.

Here's a webcam of the area: http://www.dohc.com/devilsplayground/ Glen Cove is on the right.

This one helps a little too in the day time: http://www.utepasscams.com/pikes-peak-webcam.html

Of course, this will all change if the predicted 18-24" of snow is accurate.

Tonight: Snow likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 14. Wind chill values between -5 and 5. West wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow likely, mainly after 11am. Some thunder is also possible. Cloudy, with a high near 14. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. Breezy, with a west wind between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming east. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible.

Sunday: Snow likely, mainly before 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 15. Wind chill values between -5 and zero. East wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible.

Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 5. North northeast wind between 5 and 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

I approached from the other side (west) on Saturday so I can't speak for Glen Cove itself, but once you gain the ridge (I'm guessing that's your approach) expect to receive a thorough sandblasting of snow and ice crystals in the unholy winds there. You'll be glad for face protection (goggles, scarf/clava).

Other than that it was pretty straightforward. Just follow the road to the summit. :D

They don't allow you to walk the road on Pike's. You will get a ticket.

I would not expect the road to be open to the top this weekend. It only takes a bird crapping on the road for them to shut it down. Here's the phone number to the toll road (719) 684-9138, they will be able to give you all the info you need.

Yes, follow. Not walk on. Although no one would have been the wiser if I hiked up the road last Saturday. I'd expect it to be closed now, since it was then and conditions were much better.

Didn't summit today, but went up the back side of Pikes Peak to around 13K. There was a lot of powdery snow. I only made it about half way up the road in my 4X4 truck. If you have tire chains and good clearance, you'll be all set to make it to the top though.

Lots of people were skiing.

I am going up tomorrow if anyone wants a hiking partner.

Three of us summited Saturday from Crags. Weather was nice for the first couple of hours but the storm blew in midday and made conditions difficult- rarely we had more than a few hundred yards visibility above 13k due to blowing snow. The trail was somewhat difficult with lots of powder drifts on top of wind blown hard crust.

We summited at 1:00 pm- we passed only one other hiker all day. We had the mountain to ourselves, road was closed, railroad was closed, shops were closed. After the tough trek to the top, we really missed the proverbial doughnuts and hot chocolate! :(

Great snow today. I didn't get on the mountain until noon, but i still made it to 13.7K. Was almost there but decided that I needed to turn back because it was 3:30. Had to hike out in the dark at the end. The snow is great. Lots of powder if you are a skiier or snowshoer. You can't make it without one or the other right now. The road going up the craig's is still pretty bad, I was able to make it most of the way, but I have a lifted 4x4 with new tires (still had some trouble). I think you need chains to make it to the top parking lot.

I had to break trail a lot, and the trail is still sort of hard to find.

Ryan, Which way did you go? I 'shoed up on Sunday and also saw a couple skiers coming out -- but tracks were only to the last stream crossing. From there I was bustin' trail, at the last hour of daylight. Went up Stump Alley and started heading up to the big rock formations but turned around there b/c it was getting late. Back to the car at dark.

Is there a track in now? Up B-rock to the bowl, or Stump Alley?

jgoodhart is looking to do this Sunday -- and Sen (misirlija) and I may also go -- Anyone know current conditions into the bowl (or SA) to DP?

Thx. -- Jim

Thanks so much for the invite. I have my daughters B-day this weekend. We usually celebrate the entire weekend. Be safe! Post up some picks, because I love your photos.

Yeah, I went the way that the trail goes. It was only me, not sure if the wind covered up my tracks or what. but I was on the correct trail and no one else was heading that wy. Up the bowl.

Anyone want to hit it tomorrow mid to late morning to DP before T-day dinner?
