Places to stay or just clean up in Leadville?

Postby makking » Thu Jun 18, 2009 4:49 pm

Hi all,
I will be going to Leadville for a solo weekend in July, and would like to bag Elbert while up there, but need to be clean and presentable on Sunday. I read in one of the postings that there is a shower at some grocery in Leadville - anyone know the name? Also, I have a bit of trepidation about staying near Elbert after reading about the drunks/rednecks up there - saw that before, and would rather not catch
the sequel. Any better places to pitch a tent or even a cheap room?
Thanks bunches!

I've camped at Turquoise lake before without any issues - they have some very pleasant campgrounds (but remember to take insect repellent). You'll probably need to reserve a spot.

Sugar Loafin' Campground near Leadville has showers. If tenting, sites are in the trees.

There is a nice Hostel in Leadville that is a good place to do just that! It isn't expensive either and they have amazing food!
Here is a link to their website:

The laundromat at the north end of town has showers.

I've stayed at the Elbert campground a few times and the only thing that bothered me was the mosquitoes.

The Leadville Hostel!!

We've stayed there a couple times (including with our dog!) and love it. Its nice, clean, inexpensive, and a hell of a lot of fun. We've met some really great people there. :)

If you don't want to stay there I think you can pay just to take a shower.
