I was planning on going on a 3 day backpacking trip around the maroon bells on the 4 pass loop. After talking to the rangers in the area, it sounds like less than fun. Does anyone have any ideas on a good backpacking trips that are accessible without snowshoes, excessive postholing, and for a dog? I'd like to go somewhere that is near or can include a 14er that is also hikeable. What about the Leadville/Buena Vista area? Holy Cross Wilderness? I'd prefer areas relatively near the I-70 corridor or even up to Steamboat.
Thanks in advance.
