any idea of the conditions on massive? I was thinking of hiking this weekend. Looking to get some miles in my alpine gear.
i was thinking fletcher or North Star but Massive could be a good option as well.

climbed the SW slope last Saturday. We grabbed a quick bite at Big Willies for dinner & made it up to the summit in a little over 2.5hrs to make it just in time for the sunset & then had a full moon descent. as far as conditions, the road isn't that bad getting up, as I drove my jetta up to 10, 200 ft & then hiked up a 1/2 mile or so to the TH. Ran into some snow ~12,800'+, but didn't need snowshoes or microspikes. Hope this helps & enjoy!

Thinking of doing Massive this week. How would an Outback do on the road to the trail head? 28 down, a lot to go. Thanks

The dirt road to the standard route Mt Massive trailhead is in great shape - easily passable by any car. Not sure how the Outback would do if you are planning on ascending via the southwest slopes.

There is a large rock about an .8 of a mile before the north halfmoon creek TH that your Suby would'nt be able to clear (Maybe it could but you can see for yourself). Before that the road is just washboard and small to medium sized rocks strewn about.
