Chicago Basin Climb

Postby rquayle » Tue Jun 09, 2009 2:23 pm

We plan to climb Eolus, Windom and Sunlight at the end of June.

From reading prior reports, it looks like there might still be a lot of snow.

Do we need:

*Ice axes?

Are good trail running shoes ok (with Kahtoola microspikes and gaiters) or do we need to wear heavier boots and crampons?

Roanmtnman just got back. I bet he'll chime in.

I'll be there at the end of june as well! Think crampons will be necessary to cross some snow fields at that point?

Was up there around the 4th of July last year. How does the snow compare to last year up there? Any lingering concerns about snow moving around still (stories of dust layers and recent snow in my mind)? While I have experience traveling over snow with a buddy who knows snow conditions I admit I am a novice.
