Weekend snow?? No!

Postby AlexMack » Thu May 21, 2009 1:30 pm

So I was planning on camping on halfmoon creek tonight and trying Elbert tomorrow but now I see pretty much everywhere in the state snow is being predicted for the whole weekend. Anyone else headed down there?

For days the chance of snow was between 60-80% so unless it's just cold and the normal afternoon shower is snow, looks like a little summer snow might be coming? Anyone shine any light on this?? I'd love to head over there but don't really feel like snow camping at this point of the year :)

It's still spring! No summer snow for at least a few weeks. Looks like it's time to put on the big boy undies and get to work.

AlexMack - I headed up there in a little while but going to hit it from the South Elbert TH. I will be on skis and you are welcome if you decide to go from that side.

Be safe,

NOAA is predicting 1-3 inches tonight, 2-4 inches Friday night for above 14K in that area.

Not a great weekend for climbing, that's for sure.

My favorite hike was in fog/snow on Barr Trail last year. The crowds should be down this weekend.

That's all cool on a lot of trails but I'm going to do Elbert on a clear weekday when I can enjoy the view. Glenwood canyon should be pretty sweet today!

Ive had some great climbs in crappy weather too. I did Mt. Hope when I was like 7 years old in May. Post-holing and then intense fog on the summit. At the time I felt like a true adventurer :-)

What mountains look to be in the best weather this weekend? It looks to me like the weather is pretty much equally craptastic state-wide.

i was considering skiing in the kite lake area this weekend (coming up from new mexico). any info on current conditions would be helpful. a few inches of fresh snow could be a good thing.

thunderstorms and rain not so good...
