Pants for Tall People? (6'8")

Postby beyea » Wed May 23, 2007 8:42 pm

I am looking for hiking/trekking/fall&spring pants that would fit a tall person like me. North Face, Mountain Hardware, REI and the like make pants with longer inseams, but they are still too short for me. There have to be people who have come before me that have solved this problem. Anyone know anything or anyone who might have some info?

Your profile doesn't include where you are, but if you are in the Denver Metro area, you can try Kaufman's Big & Tall on South Broadway in Englewood. I know they have some Columbia Convertible Pants in tall sizes; and I think they are actual tall sizes, not the "long" inseams on the pants you normally see at REI, Sports Authority, etc.

(Their website doesn't seem to have everything on it. I'm not seeing these pants on there this morning, but they were in the store a few weeks ago when I was there)
He's listed as day-to-day. But then again, aren't we all? -Dan Patrick

More and more tall guys springing up on this site. I am 6'8" and have struggled with this also. I have purchased pants from this place:

http://www.beyondclothing.com

with very good results. He does awesome work.

I am currently in the process of getting a pair of hiking pants made by the owner of this place:

http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com

And finally, I looked at the hints and tip of the above website, learned how to sew, and made myself a pair of lined gore-tex mountaineering pants (I decided to do these myself because the quotes that I received from custom places were just too high).

Before I found these places, I just hiked in jeans.

Good luck.
