to answer your question it is on the north east flank you would use the same start as the standard grays route

I would hardly consider the eastern slopes of Flattop "a little technical", which is what MO Flatlander is looking for. He'd look damn silly if he showed up there with crampons and an axe. Ptarmigan Snowfield might be a good option though. CMC regularly uses it for its beginner snow climbing classes.

Seriously, if your looking to do a snow climb, I would go practice on St. Mary's glacier with someone the weekend before you head out. Its close to Denver, and can easily work on your snow travel skills and self arrest skills. That is where I learned and you can actually get a lot done in one day. There still should enough snow up there to get your skills down.


on a side note...Cristo Coulour is not for a beginner.
