Looking to hike a 14er next week....

Postby gspliler » Tue Jul 02, 2013 8:41 am

I am in Denver next week for a class and will be arriving early to do some hiking. I will arrive on Sunday and was thinking about hiking a 14er on Tuesday. I have been up on 13ers several times on vacations in the past, but this would be the first 14er. I would really prefer to do a more scenic route/14er, as my opportunities come few and far between. Also, if someone happens to be planning on hiking one the same day, I would love to tag along. I am trying not to drive more than a couple hours out of Denver, but don't know how much this will limit my options. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks!

Quandry is less than two hours away, not super hard, and wont violate your rental car contract.
Drive over Loveland Pass for a good view at least one of the ways.

Thanks! I will take a look at it. Another note- I am driving my own truck. Roads are not an issue.

Good old Gray's & Torrey's is also an option. Get 2 in a day, views are solid and they are closer to Denver. Climb is very straight forward and shouldn't be crazy busy next Tuesday.

If you're willing to drive a little further, I'd definitely recommend Huron. It will likely have less people and the views are awesome.
