Good thing we are going to be attempting it between 7/26 and 7/31 We plan on starting at 1am so we can take our time and set a pacepeter303 wrote:Best time this year maybe the week of July 21. It will probably be non-technical by then (if not now). The full moon (7/22) will be in the pre-dawn sky. There will still be long hours of daylight. By the late August full moon the days will shorter and you might start seeing morning frost above the treeline (after 8/15).

1AM's not a bad call - you can get up to the keyhole at a leisurely pace. I went up the Loft at a pretty good clip starting at 3AM. We watched the sun come up over Dreamweaver Couloir just below the exit ramps at the top.Valesia wrote:Good thing we are going to be attempting it between 7/26 and 7/31 We plan on starting at 1am so we can take our time and set a pacepeter303 wrote:Best time this year maybe the week of July 21. Set out too early, and you may find yourself waiting for daylight as you get into the more technical terrain. Set out too late, and weather can be an issue.

Very true, I would rather be too early and have to wait. I have no problem stoping and enjoying a sunrise!FCSquid wrote:1AM's not a bad call - you can get up to the keyhole at a leisurely pace. Of all the wonderful memories from our time in the mountains, sunrise at Chasm Lake is one of the best. My brother, with Twin Sisters in the background:
