Looking for information

Postby chucat » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:11 pm

Hi
I and a few of my friends are looking for information and suggestion of some day hikes in Rocky NP as we are looking for some training hikes at elevations over 12000 for a hiking adventure we have this oct-nov. Any help would be appreciated as we are not familar with the area but are very experienced hikers.

Trail Ridge Road at 12K feet

Its usually open until mid-October, with various scenic parking spots. There are trails leading off to the and south at various spots. They want you to stay on the trail and off the fragile tundra.

Up to late October you can park at the Trail Ridge road closure point near treeline and hike along the road. You may or may not need snowshoes. As the season progresses they move the road closure point downhill and you dont have as scenic views any more.

Longs Peak trailhead is usually open year round. You can snowshoe up past the treeline to get a view. And up to the ridge to look down into Chasm Lake. The trail down to Lake gets treacherous in the winter.

Are you looking for training hikes to do now, or in October?
