Ed Viesturs NY Times Op-Ed

Postby Fisching » Mon Jun 03, 2013 5:59 pm

Not to let the 14ers.com annual "Everest Hate Week®" end quite yet (we gotta rival "Shark Week," yo), Ed Viesturs wrote an Op-Ed for the New York Times about a proposal by the Expedition Operators Association to tackle the annual Congo line and bottleneck on Everest:

Peter Aitchison on the risks of rock climbing and mountaineering: "That's life, isn't it? We think the challenge and satisfaction you get from doing this is worth the risks."

"Respect the mountain. Train hard. Hope you can sneak up when it isn't looking."

"The mind is always worried about consequences, but the heart knows no fear. The heart just does what it wants."

I tend to agree with Ed. A ladder won't really solve the problem of the bottleneck and long waits to get up and down the step. There are to many wannabe's trying to buy their way to a summit for which they lack the experience to climb on their own and to make up for their shortcomings in life.
