WTF?!? More fun banter about Everest

Post by davebks »

Did you all read this?!???? Take some time to check it out.
Insanity.
As my friend said, "what would happen if a skydiving instructor let you dive without proper instruction or guidance, that's what is happening here."

This is crazy. People climbing who have NEVER climbed before?!? Everest was supposed to be a test of your skill, not a place to learn. This is an affront to everything that is climbing and guiding. In short, it's a joke. A mean joke where people die.
that's my 2 cents.

Sounds like a normal year to me. This is pretty amazing, though:

And we complain about the congo lines on 14ers...that picture is amazing, dumbfounding, and disheartening all at the same time.

For $65,000 - they will accept your skill level as "expert" by default. Chances are better than not if someone is not going to walk away, it will be you.

That line of "climbers" is nuts! Not for me even if I had $65,000.

I found some interesting statistics here. According to them, 2% of those attempting the climb die (about 200 out of 10000 as of 2006). So, if 300 people made the attempt this week, 5 fatalities is right about average, if not slightly lower.

Come on, no one likes climbing with their 100 closest friends?

I'll stick to my 13ers. Thank you.
