Has anybody looked at pictures of the Dhaulagiri south face?
Does seeing it in person count?

It remains unclimbed.
The face has been climbed (more than once), but at the time I was in the Himalaya (this may have changed since then) the people whom climbed the face had reached the top of the face, but hadn't continued to the summit (but had connected it with existing routes).

No one has made a direct climb of the face though.

Edit after seeing update:

Looks like someone has recently both climbed the face and summitted (solo even!):

Purist may claim that the upper part of the face was avoided though.

Humar was an animal!!!!!......If I remember reading, his route on the south face went at M7 or M8....pretty impressive by yourself!! It's too bad he died. Some called him a maniac....He tried to solo the Rupal Face on Nanga Parbat but got hurt a bit up the face and had to get rescued so he called via phone. It seemed if things got out of hand, he would just stay put and rely fully on rescue while it didn't come on his last climb due to weather. Pushed it just a bit to far. Sad..

How was it in person?
Unlike anything in Colorado for sure. Very impessive and one of the most impressive mountain walls I've ever seen. 13,000+ feet of extremely steep rock and ice.
