Heading to the Alps soon.

Post by Snowclimber »

Greetings, fellow enjoyers of countries of height,

I'm heading across the ocean soon, and perhaps heading to the Balkans first before the Alps (I hear it's been a normal-heavy snow year in the Alps, especially compared with the pathetic CO snowpack this year -can anyone confirm?). But I'm looking to do glacial summits in the Alps by late-June/early-July. Hopefully avalanche danger has subsided by then (and snowbridges are surely still extant then), while some parties will have packed trails to an extent, but before crowds become too crazy. Hopefully. I'm looking for other people with glacial experience to join me/rope up for the climbs I'm looking at. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find partners while there, but I wouldn't mind arranging something in advance.

Just returned from a ski trip to zermatt and chamonix.
Zermatt had more snow it seemed in upper pistes. Cham is snow free up to the mid cable car station on Aguille du midi. Still plenty of snow up high tho if planning a climb of mt. Blanc. Lots of wet spring slides in all major couloirs however. Alps got alot of snow this season and it was snowing big into early may. Should be great mountaineer climbing thus summer

Thanks for the snow conditions report. Fortunately CO should be getting a foot or 2 in the next couple days.
