Rainier via the DC in August?

Post by JLuthanen »

Please don't beat up on me too badly - new to 14ers and first time poster. I made an attempt on Rainier via the DC with someone I found on summitpost somewhat last minute last year after my initial group of 'definites' fell apart. I tested would be partner out at a climb in Western MT, things seemed alright, but ended poorly long story short. No summit was made, but got above the clever before said partner called it. I am struggling again this year to find someone who can lock down 2 or 3 days off to go back up. I understand the gravity of snow travel / glaciers, etc but it really comes down to a competent walk up via this route. Been conditioning above 10K feet about every weekend all summer so far and will continue to do so until Rainier (just topped out on Granite, highest in MT, this past weekend - was a blast!).

Met some awesome 14ers at Camp Muir last year and figured I would give this a shot. Any interest in hitting Rainier via the DC Aug. 12th-16th some time? Early to midweek would hopefully offer less traffic on the mountain. Climb to high camp day one, acclimate, veg and hydrate on day 2, summit night of day 2 into day 3. I have business to attend to in Bellingham post climb, so it would be a meet there/drive separate scenario. I'm all for one competent partner or tagging along with a group. Just want to top out! Please feel free to reply here or message me for more information and cheers!
