Colorado fall foliage 2013

Postby derekw » Tue Sep 10, 2013 12:48 pm

Hi. Would post this in the photography forum but it doesn't get much action.

Any advice and or opinions how the fall colors display might turn out in 2013? Any reason to expect a good year, poor year? Seemed we had a wet summer and this might serve to help things.

Also. . . I plan on being in the area of Aspen/Telluride at the very end of Sept into the beginning of Oct. . . any reason to think this will be too late? (on a regular year or on a year "like this" . . . whatever that might be)

Your timing should be alright.

As for color you can expect pretty much the same as every year.... yellow and some brown - those are about the only colors Colorado has to offer when it comes to fall foliage.
I have been to the top of the mountain, and it is good

I've seen some nice oranges and even some reds in the Estes Park area particularly on the Twin Sisters and across the way on Lily Mountain.

This one's on the trail between Bear Lake and Bierstadt Lake in RMNP on Sept 25 five years ago if you want an idea on when is best.

I will be in Telluride this weekend so can give you an idea of how things are looking when I get back.

The following photos are from last year, Sept. 29, 2012.

Jenn - I'm heading to Telluride Sept 19th-22nd to do Sneffels and fly fish. Looking forward to seeing some of your pics. I'm hoping the colors will have at least started turning. Surprising the 'ol pops for his 60th (he's never been to the mountains in fall)
