Firearms on 14ers (Princeton)?

Postby mgh54 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 6:52 pm

Today we climbed Princeton. On the trail and at the summit was a guy who had a firearm (a pistol) strapped to his thigh in clear view. He wasn't in uniform or displaying any obvious law enforcement type of attire. I don't own a firearm so I am not very familiar with the laws around firearms. Was that legal? If so, is it legal for all 14ers?

Yes, open carrying is completely legal. I'm not positive, but I believe it is legal on every 14er. I'm pretty sure there used to be rules that prohibited carrying in National Parks but they've since been changed to allow it. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I don't personally own a gun so I haven't looked into it as much as a responsible gun owner would.
