Link up of the Elk 14ers

Postby dehrlich101 » Tue Jul 09, 2013 8:27 pm

Anton Krupicka is starting to scout the route for linking up the Elk Range 14ers. Here is his write up on the Capital - Snowmass Link-up.

Those split times are insane--22 minutes from K2 to Capitol summit?!?!?! Without much actual running, presumably. I ran into him on the ridge that day--he was moving fast! He asked (probably out loud to himself) "can I get over to Snowmass this way?" (or something like that). I chuckled and thought "no way, of course not!" I stand corrected.

I ran into both of you that day; he was faster.. I saw him on the Bells traverse a couple days earlier, we just called him running Jesus since we only saw him close to heaven??

I thought I saw him in Telluride on July 5th as I was climbing up to Bridal Veil Falls, but wasn't sure. Then on Monday, July 8th, as I was climbing up Mt Sneffels, he came flying by. He had ascended the Southwest Ridge and was descending the "standard" route back into Yankee Boy Basin. It took me a few seconds to realize it was him and snapped this pic of his descent thru the gully.

Could this be the Moccasin Man from Gerry Roach's 13ers book?
So pleas'd at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o'er the vales, and seem to tread the sky,
Th' increasing prospects tire our wand'ring eyes,
Hills peep o'er hills, and Alps on Alps arise!
-- Alexander Pope
