Such a nattering nabob of negativism, aren't we, Crusty?

And besides, hasn't the arrival of snow scared all the fair-weather 14ers people who would ask such questions away from the forums until next year?

Can my Subaru make it up the Lake Como road?
"On the edge of the porch in the warm evening night
Throwing the bone for the dog I see two passing lights
Well, I wonder where that driver's bound
Is there someone, somewhere, someway out there that I've not found"

The attached spreadsheet has my plan for climbing all the 14ers the week after I arrive from sea level in January. Does this seem reasonable? Will there be any snow on the routes by then?

Normally, no. But if you are drunk and playing with loaded guns, then yes.

And to the Deuce, why don't you join us for Emerald Peak this Saturday?

Do I need crampons to climb Mount Bierstadt via the standard route? Should I hire a guide?
"Mountains seem to answer an increasing imaginative need in the West. More and more people are discovering a desire for them, and a powerful solace in them. At bottom, mountains, like all wildernesses, challenge our complacent conviction - so easy to lapse into - that the world has been made for humans by humans. Most of us exist for most of the time in worlds which are humanly arranged, themed and controlled. One forgets that there are environments which do not respond to the flick of a switch or the twist of a dial, and which have their own rhythms and orders of existence. Mountains correct this amnesia. By speaking of greater forces than we can possibly invoke, and by confronting us with greater spans of time than we can possibly envisage, mountains refute our excessive trust in the man-made. They pose profound questions about our durability and the importance of our schemes. They induce, I suppose, a modesty in us."

NO!

But I bet you can run a marathon in under 3 hours...
Mountains cast spells on me - Why, because of the way Earth-heaps lie, should I be Chocked by joy mysteriously; stilled or drunken-gay? Why should a brown hill trail Tug at my feet to go? Why should a boggy swale Tune my heart to a nameless tale Mountain marshes know?
