Graffiti on Sherman - found Saturday

Postby RosieTheSummiter » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:03 am

I summited Mt. Sherman with some friends on Saturday and found this....
Anyone know who this is? There were at least two instances up there. Seems to me like someone needs to go back and clean up their $%!T! :x

I'm seriously considering making a bottle of Goof-off part of my standard pack. What is up with all the idiots writing on rocks?

Too bad the bird's aim was a bit off.
If you can't fix it with duct tape... it's broke.

I removed this rock from Grays last Sunday.

I've seen a few graffiti pics on the site over the last few months and they all seem to be Hispanic names. Likely a coincidence but kind of odd at the same time.

This stuff irritates me, and I actually started a thread about it a few months ago (in which a surprising number of site members seemed unconcerned about such a practice). Here's the old thread:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36052

It seems like this type of graffiti is becoming more common (I've seen it on a few summits this summer). While I agree that it is marginally better than carving an aspen tree, I still think it's a problem that people are doing this kind of thing. I don't think we (as a outdoor oriented community) should be tolerant of such practices, lest we someday discover that every mountain looks like the wall in front of a urinal, with a somewhat better panoramic view.

When I saw this photo of grafitti on Grays Peak, I sent this person from Highlands Ranch (and originally from Columbia) a message on Facebook asking if he knew anything about it and received no response.

Additionally, one of his FB photos includes another person named Anyela who's name is also on the rock.
Boooooooo

Maybe a few more messages to him will get a response either way?

Crap like "for XYZ girl, date, blah blah blah" makes me want to take the biggest dump there in the open. I haven't heard of goof-off, but I might look into that. Removal seems better than my idea.
