Climbing Preference:
I prefer technical routes but also have a strong desire to stay on trails up to the approach - too much terrain damage with all of us wondering across the landscape, etc.
Accomplishments:
It took me a couple of years to finish all of 'em by age 53. Prior to age 50 I had only climbed a dozen 14ers but I had climbed them many times for repeated workouts and training. I have also climbed Mt. Rainier, Kilimanjaro, and the "trekker's" summit on Mt. Kenya. Made it to just over 21,000 feet, above Independencia, on Aconcagua. In the technical realm I've climbed all over Eldo, Boulder Canyon, the Flatirons, Lumpy Ridge, and Vedauwoo. I've free-soloed the Third Flatiron and climbed naked over most of the First.
Goals:
Climb all of Colorado's 14ers, again, but under different conditions (full moon climbs, winter climbs, technical experiments on the peaks, etc.) and over different routes. Also, no rush this time around - if the weather is bad I'll just wait it out in my tent instead of risking avalanches and lightning strikes!
My Gear List:
I think I have everything I'd ever need for a technical climb (a full rack with spring-loadeds, etc.), hiking, backpacking, peak-bagging, and backcountry skiing.
