If you told me that there is a state wide conspiracy aimed at keeping people off 14ers by predicting bad weather, and that the NOAA is behind it all, I would say....DUH!
I climbed Mount Belford a few weeks back and it was a gorgeous bluebird day until about 1pm. It was supposed to be mostly cloudy with wind and low temps blah blah blah. My idea going forward to test out this conspiracy is to choose to hike on the worst days possible. I fully expect to discover perfect hiking days hidden in the NOAA's forecasts. Then, when I threaten to expose them, they will likely pay me large amounts of money which I will accept and then expose them anyways.
I had a great time hiking Belford. I had planned on Oxford and possibly Missouri as well, but plans changed, as they often do. Leaving my car on the CO 390 stuck in snow and losing the trail, topped off by extreme fatigue from postholing (with snowshoes) resulted in accepting a Belford summit as a fine accomplishment for the day. Is it just me or is that Belford shoulder a crazy amount of elevation. Correct me if needed, but I believe it is more severe than the Manitou Incline.
