Yet another Decalibron TR, nothing that hasn't been seen before, just getting it up for documentation sake.
Headed out in 2009 with my good friend David for a weekend of 14ers. Did Sherman the day before and decided to give the decalibron a shot the next day.
We got a bit of a late start, but the weather was being very cooperative that weekend. Could not have asked for anything better. Finally hit the trail around 6:45a and started working our way up to the saddle. Took a snack break at the saddle and started heading up.
Looking up the ridge to Dem.
Looking back at Dave coming up. This also is a good shot of the ridge heading up to Cameron and Grays and Torries waaaay off in the distance to the left.
Dave and I at the summit. Someone passed of one of the printed off summit sheets to us. Never had seen one before this! Kinda nice, kinda cheesy.
View from the summit, looking back down at the approach valley.
Looking back at Dave and the summit of Dem with some guys on top. Shortly after we summited a husband and wife duo joined us on top. He was skiing down Dem's face, she came up the normal route. Was really neat to watch him ski down the face.
About this time, Dave started slowing down. Between the long day before (flew from Chicago to KC, then drive out from KC, straight into a couloir climb on Sherman) and the altitude, he was was feeling the effects. Thankfully, weather wasn't popping up at all, the snow was still feeling good and the day just worked.
We worked our way across the expansive summit area on Cameron then made the quick down and up over to Lincoln. The tiny bit of steepness and scrambling at the summit was a nice change of pace for the day.
Summit of Lincoln.
Then the o so fun walk over to Bross... The day was getting a bit long by now, BUT you get 4 summits out of the day, so it's worth it.
No clue what the summit of Bross looked like...
This pic was NOT taken on Bross' summit.
Good view if Dem from up high on Bross. Shows the entire route. Mountain looks a lot more impressive from here than it felt on the way up.
After that, we were lucky enough to get a nice glissade down down Bross' S-Gully. It was a god sent by this point, our knees were very thankful as well! Nice view of the descent route from Dem.
Made it back down to the car a bit before 3 that afternoon. Long day up high!
So, there you have it. Another Decalibron success. Great weather, great trip with a great friend. Grabbed some food in Breck that afternoon, then back to our hotel in Silverthorn. Drove back the next morning.
