Mt. of the Holy Cross via the Halo Rige & North Ridge

Ascent Route: Fall Creek Tr./Notch Mtn. Tr./Halo Ridge Tr.
Descent Route: North Ridge/Half Moon Tr.
RT Mileage: 13 Miles
Vertical Gain: 5400'
RT Time: 12 hrs.

For months I've been wanting to do the Halo Ridge on Mt. of the Holy Cross, but I didn't know if the time was right considering the search for James Nelson. After much consideration I decided to make a go for it last Friday. This endeavor was not all about the summit, but more importantly about spending time glassing the valley floors, slopes, ridges and lakes around Holy Cross for signs of James. Sad to say I saw no signs of James. The report is intended to give a pictorial of the Holy Cross Wilderness Area to not only show its beauty, but also its ruggedness.

Note: The loop is currently in difficult conditions due the talus slopes, specifically the north facing ridge, holding snow and creating trap doors i.e. ankle biters and breakers. The route is tricky so take great care if you are going embark on it. Also, I'd highly recommend trekking poles.

Love the snow up there. I might have to return to that one in mid-October sometime. Easily one of the most beautiful hikes I've ever been on!
