 New Trail on Yale

Effective September 2, 2010 a new trail has been opened on the upper portion of the standard route for Mt. Yale.

About half way between the second water crossing and treeline, the new trail splits left from the old trail. A fallen tree trunk has been placed across the old trail, indicating that it is no longer to be used.

I didn't measure the distance, but looking at a topo map it appears that the new trail is a more direct route to the saddle. So with the new trail the round trip distance of the total hike might be a little bit less than the previously published distance of 8.75 miles.

I had my Garmin GPS with me this weekend and I got a track of around 9.85 miles round trip on the standard Denny creak route. Oh and Mooney's are nice aircraft...
