Democrat Cameron Lincoln Bross - Standard Combo

Got a decent start from Denver and hit the trailhead parking at around 8am. The road to the trailhead was pretty rough with a lot of washboard and some bad potholes, but we made it in a small sports sedan no problem, just slow.

A few people were camping and several cars were in the lot, but there was plenty of parking available. You have to pay $3 to park in the main lot at the trailhead. We got there just as the sun was breaking over bross into the main amphitheater and we had blue sky all day long.

The vertical starts quickly here, with just a few hundred yards to the base of the slope. We chose to tackle Democrat first and the hike was fairly strenuous right out of the gate. You quickly ascend to the Democrat-Cameron saddle with just a few switchbacks. The rest of the ascent to Democrat is through a large, steep boulder field, which was the worst part of the hike. We hit Democrat in 1:40.

Descending Democrat, we started on the second hardest leg, the ascent to Cameron. Again, lots of relatively steep, rocky trail. It took us just under 1:30 to reach Cameron from the Democrat Summit.

From there it was easy sailing, we snagged Lincoln in only 30 mins, and stayed up there for a while to enjoy the view. Lincoln is a nifty peak and my favorite so far. It provides great views of the Divide, Dillon, and other 14ers including its neighbor, Quandry Peak.

Another hour past that and we were heading by the Bross summit, back down to complete the loop. The descent from Bross is very steep and loose gravel and scree. Poles are highly recommended for this section. Your route back to the lot brings you by a very picturesque waterfall.

Total round-trip time, 5:58
