Shep & Limey off to college, Mt, Yale

Up at 5am and on the road at 6am from City Park area in Denver. Not much traffic, a few stretches of road works on 285 and then a state trooper keeping me honest all the way from South Park to Buena Vista
I arrive at the trailhead just before 9am and its full. We gear and bootie up and off we go. The forest area was pretty easy going tho I did cross the stream at the first log crossing into a camping area but realized there was no trail, so back over and continued up.
About an hour into the hike we meet a kid coming down. He said he set off at 5am from the parking lot so he was making incredible time. Once out of the trees the trail gets pretty steep and at times loose under foot. We start to see more peeps coming down and I chatted with most of them mostly to check on conditions but also to get a little rest
Just before the ridge I plonk down to take another rest and dive into my snacks only to realize that I had left my food in the fridge. wah! I was totally gutted and mentioned it to a passer by and he graciously gave me some trail mix. I was kinda knackered by the time I hit the ridge and the rock scrambling went kinda slow so I didnt summit until 1pm. I had 20 mins up top chatting to a family from England, wots the chances of that! We start to make our way down the boulders and pass a couple with their buddy doing his first ever 14er making their way up. Going down was very tough on my knees, this was our first hike of the season and I just wasnt ready. It didnt take long for the three peeps to make their way down and pass me before tree line. They did stop and chat and the awesome girl gave me some trailmix and a granola bar after I told her my snafu. Hikers are awesome peeps and I reckon its good karma as I gave some cliff bars to a kid when I was hiking Massive one time
I passed a German couple in the woods and they offered me food too tho I declined as I planned to stop in BV for some scran. I got back to my car at 5:15 and back to Denver at 8pm. A very long day.
