Way to find the isolation     2010-07-26 18:43:16
Nice job Kevin. Its too bad our agendas don't line up more often, a lot of these peaks you are climbing are ones of high interest for me.

Did you happen to check out ”The Cleaver” at all? That looked really interesting as I noticed it descending off Alice towards Boulder-Grand Pass. I'm pretty sure its right next to Mahana Pk.

Nice 13er selection...     2010-07-26 19:44:33
Thanks for the write up and photos, Kevin. Isolation is on my radar for this September. It seems like one can cover a lot of miles quickly in Wild Basin (at least in the trees when the views are gone). I highly recommend Alice and Chiefs Head and the Lion Lakes area - I think they'd be right up your alley.

So many hidden gems...     2010-07-26 19:44:47
...in RMNP! Some of my best hiking experiences have been in Rocky Mountain, far from the ice cream and gift shops in the sickness that is downtown Estes. Been planning on making the trek out to Isolation sometime this fall, and your report makes me think that would be a wise decision! Great report on an obscure peak.

Nice climb and fun write-up, Kevin! Enjoyed the photos. Neat place.

thanks     2010-07-26 20:37:37
Thanks for the comments, guys. Yeah, if Isolation was a 14er it would be one of the most popular, but I'm glad few go back in there. It's a pristine place indeed! Brian, I didn't get a look at the Clever. It sure looks like a cool summit from the pic of it on LOJ! I'll have to get it with Tanina someday!

awesome peak     2010-07-26 21:13:36
what a fantastic peak, a rare gem in the national park

hiking up to boulder/grand pass and across the cleaver is a fantastic route if you decide to do it again.

nice little report     2010-07-28 16:55:05
Thanks for this Kevin. I was hoping to get to Isolation this summer but the weekends are passing too quick. I hiked the 5 miles up to Ouzel Lake last May and took a good look up that drainage. The surrounding peaks still seemed so far away. What a wild place - certainly earns its name.
