If you're looking for solitude, don't look for it hiking Grays Peak. Because Grays is so close to Denver, it was by far the most crowded of the 14ers that I have climbed. But there is a solid trail all the way to the top, and the hike is quite scenic.

Grays Peak shortly after daybreak:

Torreys Peak, which is the next door neighbor to Grays Peak:

An interesting rock formation on the hike up Grays:

I found Torreys Peak to be more photogenic than Grays:

Looking back, almost to the summit of Grays:

And a nice view from the summit:

If you are wondering about the title to my report, since Grays Peak was my ninth 14er to climb, during my hike I kept thinking about the old Beatles song where the singer kept repeating "Number 9, Number 9, Number 9". Hey, whatever gets you to the top.

”If you're looking for solitude, don't look for it hiking Grays Peak.”

I climbed via Horseshoe Basin on a Saturday in August, and we didn‘t see a single person until we reached the summit of Grays. Check out my report from the trip; I highly recommend that route.
