 Mt. Sneffels--Yankee Boy Basin Approach  

Just an advisory of the snow in the cirque: Lots of it. To be completely safe, wear traction devices on your hiking boots. And DON'T climb in tennis shoes! Several climbers above us on our decent, lost footing on the snow field. One came sliding and tumbling for more than 50' before she hit the rocks, banging through them before she came to a rest. She survived with no broken bones or cracked skull. Pure and total luck.

Early afternoon brought a lightning storm with snow and rain. Get off by noon... We saw numerous strikes below the summit.
