Sunny and Windy day in Huron Pk

Approach: North Ridge from Clear Creek

We arrive to one of the campsites near the TH on Saturday night, we were coming back from summiting Antero so we arrived pretty late at night (around 10pm). We probably woke up some campers when driving by.

We had attempted this peak last year in August, but because of weather we had to return back and we did not make it. So, this was our "revenge" on this 14er.

We camped near some miner's cabins, about 1/4 mile from the TH.

Let's build that cabin!

We started our climb next morning around 8am, it was a pretty clear blue sky day. The trail starts steep, however after 1000 feet elevation you can get very nice views.

You can see the summit right away from the trail.

The trail keeps climbing and climbing...

Looking down on the trail, you can see some hikers down there

And the summit looks closer and closer...

We summited around 10.45 am, took us about 2 h 45 min (including stops to snack, take pictures, etc.)

Near the summit there was some steep snow

After eating our lunch an taking some more pictures we headed down. The wind was starting to blow harder and it was getting cold. We made it down in about 2 hours, got to our camp spot around 1.30 pm. Packed everything and ready to head back home.

This is a beautiful peak with wonderful views and a great place to camp out. Definitely one of our favorites.

Nice report and pictures. That is a nice campsite, it sounds like it is beyond Winfield. I will be in a car. What is the camping like before Winfield? I‘m debating whether to stay over at Twin Lakes and get up early, or camp along the way in.
Thanks.

Yes, this campsite was beyond Winfield (about 2 miles) and the road was pretty rough. There are also campsites along the way in, just before getting to Winfield and beyond, so I am pretty sure you can get one of these.
