 Elbert - East Ridge

My college friend Jaydn is climbing Rainier later this month. Since he now hails from the great mountaineering state of Arkansas I suggested he come out to Colorado for a weekend of training.

The weather forecast was incredibly terrible (rain, snow, and more rain), but we managed to summit Elbert on Sunday via the east ridge route (South Elbert TH).

There was up to 6-8" of new snow above tree line, and the weather never really cooperated, but the clouds certainly made for interesting views. We later learned that a cold air funnel cloud appeared over Massive while we were climbing. Massive Funnel Youtube Video

Before heading to the airport we climbed local peaks S. Boulder Peak and Bear Peak above Boulder this morning. We started below the cloud layer and finally peeked out above the clouds on the summit of Bear Peak.
