 Lincoln Group

Three of us did the Lincoln group on Friday evening. We were able to drive up with our Honda Accord all the way to the last 8/10's mile to Kite Lake. But there are still a lot of snow fields there in general going the standard route. If you've already done Democrat but haven't done the other three peaks, my easiest suggestion is to climb the Bross trail on the right to hit them that way and avoid Kite Lake, the stream crossings and snow fields altogether. It was pretty easy. The weather was great, but pretty windy. You don't need snowshoes or anything special at all. We started around 5p and got back to the car by 10:30p (we made it to Lincoln 7:45p and Cameron at 8p). I think we would have gotten back much sooner than that, but we decided to descend to the Cameron/Democrat saddle and go down that way in the dark. Thats where we encountered the snow fields and just took our time not to fall. Most areas were slushy and we post holed. But a few spots were actually icy. The lower we got, by the streams/lake, we got our feet and bottom of our pants completely soaked. Its pretty much unavoidable especially by the trailhead. But if you ascend the Bross route and go back down that way you'll be totally fine.

I can post pictures from the trip later this evening if anybody is interested. But the range is definately doable for sure. And the views from above are beautiful. There are so many snow capped peaks to see!

we attempted the north ridge, but gave up because of the crazy winds on saturday. the approach from the montgomery reservoir is a total slush-fest... not recommended, at all, right now.

We hiked up the day before you. We tried to hike up the standard trail to Democrat and encountered a bunch of snow. We were soaked and tired by the end of the day and only had energy to do Democrat. The other 3 peaks looked easier.

Yeah, i‘d like to see some pictures of the trip. I plan on heading up there this weekend and was wondering about the snow conditions. Thanks for the tip of doing Bross first then the others.
