 mini TR- Dead dog conditions

Dead Dog on 5.27.2010 - or- How I learned to stop worrying and love the Snirt.

No camera today. TR's without pics make me sad too. Sorry.

I'll just keep it short and give out some info.

I skied Dead Dog, it was okay.
I saw a male and female Ptarmigan, they make me doubt evolution.

Here are the "highlights":

light enough to turn off headlamp - 5:10 AM

Sun hit in top of Torreys - approx 5:40AM

I updated the TH info, 2wd = 1/10 of a mile from summer trail head.

Recent wet slide activity to the right of DD and South paw has sizable pile of debris, crown visible at the top.

Snow in DD is consolidated. Not really super hard yet, you sink in a bit, but it is corn / corn-ish.

Only a few small rocks in the snow and saw no rock fall. Your mileage may vary.

I waited at the top for a bit in the hopes that things would warm up and soften the snow- by 8:30-ish AM the top half was still firm, the bottom half was sloppy. I had some cloud cover.

All but 25 feet or so is ski-able from the summit to the TH if you cross the trail and follow the stream to the bridge. Its pretty cool to see the stream carve out ice sluices and the snow bridges add and element of danger and excitement, (the stream is only 12 inches deep, think wet boots, not drowning)

Snirt, Snirt, Snirt. Mucho snirt below 12,000 feet. Need to figure out how to wax for that, its like hitting the brakes every time you hit it. Flourinated wax, maybe?

I got a sweet tan, in time the red will fade to a golden bronze. I hope.

Found out Strawberry Cliff shot tastes absolutely horrible; Like a mixture of Tab and I don't know...poison? Do they still make Tab? And if so, who is drinking it?

In the New England area you can get it at least - it has a huge warning on the side telling you it will likely give you cancer.
