 Freedom Hike

Im calling this my freedom TR because that's pretty much what it was for me. Ive been going thru several things at work and home and I just needed to get out and re center myself.

I emailed my boss on Tuesday and told him.... Sir, I need friday off, is that cool? A couple of minutes later I was calling my friend Jesse to set up the trip.

Friday morning we woke at 3:30am and after a quick stop for water and some breakfast we started the drive up to Buena vista with only about 5 hrs of sleep.

We were to meet with 4 other hikers but wegot lost and didnt show up to the TH until 7am. We geared up and started to walk. About 30min into the hike we crossed paths with Ted ???(im terrible with names) He hand hit a rock with his ankle and decided to turn around.

The begining of the trail was a bit muddy but nothing to bad. We found some snow patches that were still frozen over and did not provide much of a challange (at that point)

We got to timberline at about 9:30am and we decided to stop and have a snack. Ive been doing very well with protein shakes and a granola bar so thats what I had. Jesse on the other hand went after the Energy gel shots which proved to be a bad idea later on during the hike ( and thats all i have to say about that )

Then it got steep. But I really noticed how much the training in the gym has paid off. Still it was hard work. We got to the saddle at around 11:30am and gave it a last push towards the summit.

The scramble to the summit was very nice.

We arrived at the summit somtime around 12:30pm we tooks some pics and looked for the registry but didnt find one.

Got backto the car at 5pm after a little lost time of about 30 min.

Yale was my Freedom Hike last August. My divorce was finalized in February. Now I‘ll have many more Freedom Hikes!

Hi guys, I was planning to do Yale on Monday. From the photos it doesn‘t look like you used snowshoes or crampons, but I just wanted to double check to see if you think we would need them on the ascent.

Going up the snow was solid enough to only need boots but we were there until later in the day and we did use snow shows right below timberline. IMO crampons would be over kill.
