Looks like a great trip! Lots of smiles!!

I want to kick myself. The east couloir looked in good shape when I was last there, but I thought the finish was on the east face and that traverese looked treacherous in the suspect snow. If I had realized the finish was on the back, I‘d have at least topped the couloir and given it a peek!

Again, good job!!

Steve

Why didn‘t you guys take the extra day and enjoy the camping? That‘s always my favorite part of the trip, when all the anxiety leaves and I can finally relax in some amazing surroundings.

Also, you guys should be drinking something better than PBR after a trip like that.

Great photos and write up for a solid effort on the Chicago group. Impressive work by all involved.

tastes like grundle sweat. Show your parched palate some respect and drink Dale‘s (like Marc is) or treat it like royalty with some Modus.

Drink of choice aside, solid outing. I can definately relate to having solid partners, thats half the battle and can make the experience that much better. This TR has a little bit of everything it seems.

Those are the best. The coverage looks really good. Nice work getting North Eolus, I want to come back for that line sometime.

For another enjoyable TR. This trip really was one for the books!

Darryl, Schralp and Brian: Look closer, you‘ll see that we had Dale‘s Pale as well as PBR, and everyone chose as he preferred. aHudge is right, at that point it all tasted so good - it was cold, and we were hot, tired and jazzed. And thirsty.

Well done, well done. Your igloo looks like it could be on the cover of Architectural Digest or even Igloo Quarterly. Nice line on N. Eolus! How was the trail from the basin down to the train??

Thanks all!

Jarrett, heading back in there for North Eolus and others would be super worth it. There are lines all over that place!

gohigher, the trail was melting out very fast. My guess is as I write this there is dry dirt to be trodden on all the way to Chicago Basin. The trail itself is straightforward and well maintained, does this answer your question?

Thanks!

benners,

That answers my question, thank you. I was wondering about snow cover below the basin. BTW, I was checking out Vestal from my house Saturday wondering if anyone was in the area. It was socked in pretty good from my point of view and then by 7:30 P.M. the clouds parted, disappeared and a beautiful sunset followed. Sweet.

Thanks Bill!

Steve, yeah the terrain from the top of the couloir to the summit is pretty mellow. I think the couloir to the West Face would make for an expedient, safe route to the top under stable conditions, much easier than the summer route anyway...

Schralp, the main reason we rushed outta there is because we were originally planning on skiing another peak the following day. Unfortunately I ended up coming down with the flu that evening, so we made a group decision to just head home and get some much needed rest. Pretty cool decision my group made, they certainly didn't have to head home on my account if they didn't want to but they chose to anyway. As for the beer, I keep hearing this objection over and over, but in my mind PBR will always reign as a premium post-ski beer .

Nice work, guys. The train ride, the San Juans, intriguing ascents and descents, tasty food and beverages, an igloo- it doesn't get much better than that! Great TR as well.

Looks like you guys had a great time. I really like that line off of North Eolus. cool
