 Huron Peak

Figuring the road would be closed far out we rented a snowmobile for the day. This proved wise as the road was closed 7 miles from Winfield. We were able to snowmobile another 1/2 mile, powder sleds could have made it to the summer trailhead, but we had just one touring sled for the two of us. We broke trail in about 2-4" inches of snow to about 13,000 feet, and it was a bit windy above 13,500. Otherwise a spectacular day. Skiing below 13,500 was surprisingly good (or better than Yale two weeks ago ) all the way to the valley floor.

Question: Where were you able to rent a sled where you didn‘t have to use it in their tour area? I have been looking at doing similar things.

Thanks.

We rent from this place in Denver. We have used them twice now, once about 4 years ago for Lindsey. It was $188 out the door with trailer ($25).

We were discussing on the way home whether Huron was cheaper than if we had gone to Vail.

Oh I think I finished the Sawatch some time ago. Just helping Pam finish them up. I have to say it was a far more spectacular day than I was expecting.

That is a magnificent view from the top of Huron. I like those pics of the ski track through the upper basin. That is a nicely done adventure.
