 Sherman with Sarg

Sarg and I attempted Sherman in early January this year, but were turned back by hurricane force winds about 500' below the summit. The wind that day was amazing! We basically had to crawl down the mountain to escape. Since then I tore my ACL and both meniscus and hadn't done any major hiking, and was bummed. So, being the good friend he is, Sarg insisted we try Sherman again. ( he's torn both his ACL, and is an inspiration ). We left Denver around a quarter till five in his Subaru battle wagon. We were able to drive to about a mile and a half below the old to Leavick town site. We were hiking at ten till seven. The air was still and it wasn't too cold. Image We didn't put our snowshoes on until we turned off the road and started up the snow route. I didn't take many photos; as Sarg set a blistering pace and I just had to keep my head down and keep my hind quarters churning. It was great snow. Image The climbing heel on our snowshoes was key. We were on the summit at 10. The wind from the Leadville side was ferocious, so we didn't take the standard "man-hug" photo. OK maybe just one. We brought ice axes and were hoping to glissade down, but the snow was too soft by then, so we hoofed it down. We were back in town early enough for me to get ready to plow all night . It was a great hike! Thanks for short roping me up Sarg. Lets do it again. PS the surgically repaired bionic knee felt good!

but good all the same. Thanks for posting...especially because it‘s good to see you guys back climbing after knee injuries! I‘ve got a messed up knee myself...torn MCL from Aug. 6th on Capitol. I can‘t seem to get it well. Any advice?

Thanks for posting this trip report Summit Express. I had a blast! Good times. What is our next Winter Ascent?

Globreal--work on flexibility then try to build your quad muscles so that you can support your MCL.

Next Winter ascent     2010-01-02 14:35:11
Hey who‘s that young clean shaven guy? I‘m thinking our next winter ascent should be Yale or Princeton or maybe Pikes. Whatever you prefer is cool with me. Lets just go soon!
