My great grandfather was one of the fallen many who perished just above Camp Sorrow. In 1934, he led an expedition to that point, and a storm blew in from the west, pinning them down. He had promised a friend who had been decorated in WWI to get him to the summit. In the midst of the ragging storm, the two of them set off for the summit, clearly a foolish decision. They were never seen again, but the rest of the expedition swore that the wind carried a faint whisper of ”goodbye” back down to the camp several hours later.

steve - like I said, we got a little carried away. Jeff has your gaiters. =) by the way, my GPS calculated a total non-linear ascent of 7900‘ and I‘d bet it was pretty close

paul - we climbed Everest and K2 in preparation for this
