Wow.

Looks like if I had only hung in there a few more hours with the snow and ice on 24, I could have enjoyed some real alpine penitence with you guys.

Steve, I can see the disappointment on your face in that summit shot. I know how much you suffer on these difficult winter trips.

Good effort, guys.

Jim

Nice effort!

Looks like you guys earned this one. I like the line, ”I was convinced we would not reach the summit--it felt hopeless and awesome at the same time.” Steve and Cooper the mountain goat are a good pair to go with. I see Steve brought his gaiters.

which route
11/22/2009 2:56pm
did you end up taking? I was up there yesterday and we were trying to figure out which route you actually went up. We didn‘t end up attempting the summit because of the winds up high, but we wandered around a bit trying to figure out your track.

Nice report, and it looks like you guys really worked your butts off for that summit

The Route

In the first sentence of the TR, Mike has a link to the Summitpost version of the same report. For some reason, when he pasted the TR over here, the GPS info didn‘t copy. If you go over to the SP TR, you‘ll get the route info you need. Just keep blowing up the map. The northern fork to the saddle was the ascent, and the southern route through the wider gully is the descent. I bet this route is further north than your windy attempt.

Thanks all

for the feedback!

Steve -- Yeah, it looks like we may have snagged it the hard way. Then again, all our extra effort heightened the sense of achievement. Well that‘s my story, anyway.

Jim -- I‘m still trying to decide if this was worth it:

Ehh... definitely worth it!

Did we get screwed?

I hate it when I do and don't even notice.

We fought and froze like heck to make that summit and three days later it looked like this :

Meanwhile, over over on Elbert:

Caleb and Jim used words like "Fall", "Blue","Sprintime", and "View" in their TRs. They were conspicously missing from your TR, Mike.
Also, Jim mentions climbing 5000'on Elbert in three hours; it tok us eight on Antero. We are so wimpy.

Thanks guys. Intense (if not beautiful) day. I‘ll vote us five stars for effort.

Steve

Looked like a great day for you in overcoming and making the summit. Congratulations on a job well done. That was no easy task.
