 Mt. Massive SW slopes

It. was at 2:30 I would wake up with my dad to drive up and do Mt. Massive with him. We got to the trailhead at 6:30 and had a long hike to the summit. There was less than an inch of fresh snow that laid the mountain but trailfinding was easy. Because it was slippery, I torqued my knee and added with growing; made it hurt a little to hike. This caused me to go at a slow pace and I got blazed by a guy in short sleeves and a wide brimed hat who got ahead of his group. This made me feel bad even though he would have passed me anyways, after 4 1/2 hours we finally made it on to the summit ridge and we were met by many demoralizing false summits. But the long uphill was all worth it, when I saw the beautiful Elk Range for the first time at 11:45. Then it was for the hard part, the downhill. Luckily, my knee stopped hurting and we took our time and kinda played leapfrog with another group going down also. We finally made trailhead at 3:00. I passed by the Blackhawk memorial and paid my respects to the men who died and their families. An interesting topic to think about is in in my 8th grade social studies class the next day, we were informed about the cross to remember veterans in California that has many debate over whether it should be taken down or not because it showed a religious symbol and it was in federal land. Mt. Massive is a wilderness and the Blackhawk memorial is a cross honoring the men who died in the crash. Will it be taken away too?
