CLIMBERS: "WISH I LIVED IN CO" AND WIFE

TRIP REPORT:

"I don't want to mess around with those little hills in Colorado, we're going to climb Kilimanjaro" - My wife about six months ago, half joking, half serious. At the time she was boosted by having just completed our earlier hike of the Grand Canyon in March which went very well; I think it's over 4,000 feet of gain. While she very much wants to climb Kili someday as her ultimate goal, she decided that while we were on a trip to visit her daughter in Colorado, it would be convenient to "test out" a peak or two in Colorado first. Especially to see the effects of altitude at over 14,000 feet; but also to see what I've obsessed over for 2 summers now, and because it sounded like fun and a good hike. So it was on.

The original plan was to climb Quandry which has more elevation gain. Lesson: Never take Benedryl before a climb! My wife suffers from allergies, so the allergies combined with the effects of the Benedryl made us turn back above treeline. She was disappointed to say the least and left wondering if any peak was in her future, let alone Kili. So we re-adjusted our plans for Sherman two days later.......

Sherman. It was to be a day of accomplishment. First, it was my wife's birthday (we won't say which one of course). Second, later that night we finished reading thru the Bible after nearly two years of reading. And oh yeh, we summited Sherman !!!
