I car camped at lower Huerfano TH 10235' for the weekend. On Saturday morning I got up at 4:30a to eat breakfast and then read my book for awhile waiting for a little light outside. I started hiking up the road by 5:45a and reached the upper TH 10686' by 6:18a.

6:44a - Mt Lindsey – Lily Lake Trail Jcn ~10700'

7:21a – heading up the gulch

7:52a – view of Huerfanito

By 8:41a was heading up Huerfanito's NW ridge.
9:05a – middle bump just under NW Lindsey is true summit

9:46a – came down Huerfanito's SE scree slope and headed NE to reach std route saddle

10:28a – at saddle ready to tackle Lindsey's NW ridge

10:50a – good look at Class 4 crux section, climbed straight up the crack

11:03a – climbed in the crack, pack got a wedgie near the top

11:29a – on summit of NW Lindsey

11:44a – on summit of Mt Lindsey looking over NW Lindsey & further to California Pk

11:45a – me on summit of Mt Lindsey, Blanca Pk behind

12:16p – heading down std route

12:39p – back at the saddle ready to tackle Iron Nipple

12:48p – passage up

12:50p – looking back

12:50p – looking ahead to remainder of Iron Nipple's S ridge

1:02p – Iron Nipple summit

1:05p – view of S ridge to Huerfano Pk

1:08p – had to cross over mini knife-edge

1:18p – looking back at Iron Nipple N ridge

1:51p – looking at rest of ridge to PT 13555 from Huerfano Pk summit

2:17p – straight-fwd so far

2:26p – a notch to climb around

2:47p – sometimes needed to work around obstacles by climbing down into scree areas, but best to stay as high as possible (on ridge) as often as possible

3:03p – looks steep but just keep climbing right up ridge

3:30p – final hurdle to PT 13555

3:58p – me on summit of PT 13555, Class 3 ridge behind

4:29p – heading down PT 13555 N face, finally just a gentle grassy slope

By 5:10p – headed into trees, and hooked up with Huerfano trail by 5:49p. There were numerous switchbacks to get down to my campsite, but arrived at 6:18p after a long 12.5 hr day.

very nice route     09/04/2009 04:47
and I‘d say you made good time, too. 13555 doesn‘t get too many visitors. An ”A” for originality, and efficiency!

Point 12,915?     09/04/2009 06:49
Nice route. How easy do you think it would be to add point 12,915 with Iron Nipple? What about skirting the west face of Iron Nipple to gain the south ridge of 12,915? Do you happen to have any photos of 12,915 from Iron Nipple?

PT 12915     09/04/2009 13:14
To obtain this summit from Iron Nipple would entail a 900‘ drop, so a hefty price to pay along a long planned route. To me it was a choice of coming up the ridge including Huerfanito vs. the ridge including PT 12915.
I posted an image to Mt Lindsey‘s ”More Photos” that shows the ridge from PT 12915 to Iron Nipple (taken next day on California Pk to PT 13660 ridge loop).

Cool route     09/04/2009 13:23
I was there the day before to do Lindsey and couldn‘t help but notice (and wish I had the time/energy for) all the neat local terrain. What a beautiful place. I may have to go back just to explore more of the nooks and crannies the way you did...

13660 - Ellingwood ridge     02/01/2011 00:24
Did you happen to get a shot of the ridge from 13,660 to Ellingwood?

Ellingwood Pt ridge to PT 13660 pics posted     09/10/2009 22:31
I posted 3 pics to Ellingwood Pt 14er pics. Best I had. I believe that part of this ridge route is Class 5 according to GR‘s route 20-8.
