 Bierstadt from Guanella Pass

My son Marc and I left Silverthorne at 6:30 am. Thanks to this website and the message board I read that Guanella Pass Road is closed from 8 - 11 am, so we started a lot earlier than usual. We got to the parking lot at 7:30 am. It was cloudy and a little chilly.

We started right away and made it through the willows and up that first ridge pretty quickly. From here there were great views of the sawtooth.

From further up the ridge to where the talus begins, i.e. right under the summit slopes, was the only "difficult" part of the hike as it got a little steeper.

We got to the summit at 9:30 am, so about 2 hours since we left the parking lot. Not too many people up there. It was windy and pretty cold. We signed our names and spend another 15-20 minutes on the summit before we went down again.

After we left the summit the sun finally came out for a while and we took a few more pics.

It took us one and a half hours to get back to the parking lot. It was our fourth 14er this year and for sure the easiest one we have done so far. While I prefer to be alone in the "woods", it was still an enjoyable hike. Not too crowded probably because of the not too perfect weather and it being a Thursday.

We then drove back the other way, i.e. toward Grant and made a big loop via Fairplay back to Summit County. Here are some more pictures:
