Grays - Back to Back for Kylee

What better way to celebrate your first Fourteener than to do another the very next day. Yesterday's summit of Bierstadt was our daughter Kylee's first and today, Tuesday, August 4, she made it to the summit of Grays as well. Joining her on the trek were mom, dad, cousin Whitney and Whit's friend Christina.

We left the Steven's Gulch trailhead at just after 7:00 AM and hit the summit at 9:15 AM. We departed the summit at 9:45 AM and were back at the trailhead by 11:30 AM. We had considered going over to Torreys but had family waiting on us back in Silverthorne plus we were ready to get back. Whit's GPS indicated a total distance of about 7.5 miles.

Luckily we were in a Nissan Pathfinder 4 wheel drive as the road up, as described, is pretty rough. On the way back we counted 10 cars parked at the 0.5 mile mark of the road going up to the trailhead, just before probably the roughest spot of the entire 3 miles. There were about 20 cars at the trailhead, all some type of SUV.

This marked somewhat of a milestone for me, my 20th summit of a Fourteener.
